What support can be received?
State support for relocation and social integration is provided through the following measures:
- Compensation for resettlement costs:
- Train, plane or coach tickets to Lithuania;
- Transport of personal belongings by freight trains or road vehicles (up to 5 tons for one person, up to 10 tons for a family);
- Other expenses (visa fees, document issuance fees, personal insurance expenses, accommodation expenses during relocation, translation services).
- Travel expenses for individuals accompanying disabled (elderly, single, or ill) returnees.
- For pension-age individuals, disabled individuals, single parents raising minors, individuals over 18 years old who are students at formal educational institutions temporarily coming to Lithuania to resolve housing issues, as well as issues related to pension provision, healthcare, education, a one-time allowance of up to 290 EUR may be granted.
- Individuals who bring school-age children to study at Vilnius Lithuanian House Gymnasium can receive compensation for round-trip journeys by passenger train, plane, or road transport for one accompanying person and children coming to study.
- One-time settlement allowances are provided (2,028 EUR for adults, 1,440 EUR for children under 18 years old).
- The opportunity to benefit from the employment program in Lithuania is provided (assistance in finding employment, various training, requalification, skills improvement, job placement funding, etc.). Returning political prisoners and deportees, along with their family members looking for work, are registered at the territorial offices of the Employment Service under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter the Employment Service), where they are provided with all the services of the Employment Service.
- Lithuanian language courses are organized, and other integration measures are applied.
- Support is provided for the maintenance of returning deportee children in summer camps and for learners studying at Vilnius Lithuanian House Gymnasium.
- Returnees are also entitled to benefit from the general system of social assistance and social services (social allowances, reimbursement of heating costs, drinking water and hot water costs, children's allowances, etc.), which is applicable to all citizens of Lithuania.
- Retired individuals who have returned may have their work experience calculated, and they can receive a pension (detailed information can be found HERE).
